The Mid-Atlantic Watershed Atlas (MAWA): Open access data search & watershed-based community building
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Mid-Atlantic region in the United States (US) is composed of a diverse range of gradients across its natural and human systems. These gradients encompass heavily urbanized population centers, agriculture dominated valleys, reforested headwaters, and some of the most important estuaries in North America. The Mid-Atlantic Watershed Atlas (MAWA) portal has been developed to encourage public access and use of a wide range of freely available data resources. Moreover, the system has been designed to facilitate emergent geospatial tagging to identify the individuals, groups, and agencies shaping the region’s water resources. The goal of the system is to facilitate improved regional watershed knowledge, provide information to individual stakeholders, and support broad regional initiatives. 2009 Elsevier Ltd. Assessing wetland condition on a watershed basis in the Mid-Atlantic region using synoptic land-cover maps.
We developed a series of tools to address three integrated tasks needed to effectively manage wetlands on a watershed basis: inventory, assessment, and restoration. Depending on the objectives of an assessment, availability of resources, and degree of confidence required in the results, there are three levels of effort available to address these three tasks. This paper describes the development...
متن کاملSpatial and Temporal Characteristics of Snow Cover in the Tizinafu Watershed of the Western Kunlun Mountains
The Tizinafu watershed has a complex mountainous terrain in the western Kunlun Mountains; little study has been done on the spatial and temporal characteristics of snow cover in the region. Daily snow cover data of 10 hydrological years (October 2002 to September 2012) in the watershed were generated by combining MODIS Terra (MOD10A1) and Aqua (MYD10A1) snow cover products and employing a nine-...

متن کاملDesign and Development of Web Services for Accessing Free Hydrological Data from the Czech Republic
The target of the open source hydrodata.cz web application and web services is to bridge the gap between modelers and field hydrologists by providing free, publicly accessible precipitation, snow, temperature, and discharge data series from multiple organizations in the Czech Republic using the standardized the CUAHSI WaterML data format and search services. Data providers contributing to this ...
متن کاملA Web-Based Tool to Estimate Pollutant Loading Using LOADEST
Collecting and analyzing water quality samples is costly and typically requires significant effort compared to streamflow data, thus water quality data are typically collected at a low frequency. Regression models, identifying a relationship between streamflow and water quality data, are often used to estimate pollutant loads. A web-based tool using LOAD ESTimator (LOADEST) as a core engine wit...
